Welcome to Stony Brook!

We're Glad You're Here.

Welcome to The Graduate School at Stony Brook University! Whether you are already part of our academic family or exploring the possibility of joining us, I invite you to explore our website to understand the pivotal role The Graduate School plays in the academic mission of our University.

Graduate education is an important investment in your future, and I believe that our academic community is just the right place for you. This is an exciting time for graduate education at Stony Brook. We currently offer graduate programs in forty-eight fields across the Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Business, Journalism, Health and Medicine, as well as the Graduate Arts Campus in Southampton. As a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and with our partnerships with Brookhaven National Laboratory and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, we offer a unique opportunity to become involved in cutting edge research and scholarship.

As graduate students, you are my number one priority and I am committed to providing the environment and resources you need to succeed. As you investigate new ideas, discover new solutions, and develop new skills, you can rely on The Graduate School for support. Currently, we provide a full range of student services and opportunities, including the Graduate Council Fellowships and Turner Fellowships; an array of professional development workshops; and the Graduate Student Advocate. Each year, we also recognize the outstanding achievements of our graduate students in teaching and research through the President's Awards for Excellence. And we continue to work with various partners on our campus to expand services and activities to include a mentoring program, workshops in communicating science, social activities, and increased travel opportunities.

Research universities like Stony Brook are built on a synergy among outstanding faculty, students, and staff, and graduate students from around the world play an essential role in bringing passion, diversity, and creativity to the community of scholars. We hope that you will find your experiences at Stony Brook University to be as valuable as we do.
